Afternoon Out

Museum Outfit!
Due to security restrictions, I was unable to accompany my friend to any of her meetings. So I went to the Modern Art Museum! It was grand.

I wore my military jacket from H&K, my red dress from Nordstrom Rack, leggings, sunglasses and purse from Target, riding boots from TJ Maxx.

I definitely look Turkish when I try. I got asked for directions twice!

Here are my store window picks today:

I love, love, love these dresses. Saw them in a shop window on a little street behind the Grand Bazaar.

Wandering Taksim

Surprise! I'm in Turkey!
Tourist Outfit:
Black Boyfriend Cardigan- Zara
Black and White Hearts Blouse- Target
Skinny Jeans- Target
Chucks- Gift from my big brother :)
Purse and Shades- Target!
Skull Earrings- Artifacts Gallery.

Technically it's still teacher fashion because I'm going to do some grading online later! Ha!

I jumped on the opportunity to tag along with a coworker for some environmentally-oriented professional development. Today we spent hours walking around Taksim, taking in Ex-Constantiople!

I LOVE Armenia, but I think I was in need of a bit of a spring break. It's a straight shot through semesters here- no Thanksgiving or Easter breaks, so I'm hoping this extended weekend will see me through until June.

I never thought I would go to Turkey. EVER. Historically, people of my ethnic background haven't been so welcome here. Last year I was engaged to a member of another Middle-Eastern ethnic minority, and so I had double reason never to come here. But I've been reading a lot about Istanbul lately and its political role in the formation of the modern Middle East, and I just had to see these streets for myself.

It is indeed where East meets West! I may be particularly giddy because I think this is how I imagined Armenia- Kebab and chestnuts sold on every street corner, fruits to choose from for your juice at lunch.

My fashion pick of my day in Taksim:

This fabulous Vogue Cover dress!

 Looooooooove it!
It was 60% off in a cute little boutique, but I'm saving my mad cash for some accessories at the Grand Bazaar- stay tuned!

Grueling Tuesday

Welcome to my Tuesday.

Yellow and White Polka-Dot Blouse- Target in Cleveland, Ohio.
Black Skinny Jeans- Target in Cleveland, Ohio.
Navy Blazer- H&M in Parma, Italy.
Rose Tear Drop Earrings- Suk in Marrakech, Morocco.
MIA Riding Boots- TJ Maxx in Cleveland, Ohio.

I know that the photos are not of stellar quality today, but before I could retake them, my camera died! Feeling rather drained this morning (and trying hard to hide it!) so I'm off to work without much pluck for today's outfit.
I will tell you this: While I do think my riding boots are cute with this outfit, I'm really only wearing them today because my body is too tired for heels!

Gram-Glam

Today's outfit was inspired by a bit of nostalgia I've been having for my grandmother.

She was not your average Gram. Well into her 70s she wore knee-high, high-heeled boots and horn-rimmed glasses with rhinestones.
Her hair was so long, it reached her lower back, and she wore it piled on top of her head in a chic sock bun.
In other words, she was FABULOUS.
So when I found this sweater that reminded me of her at a thrift store in Scotland, I had to buy it. I have been using it to channel her style ever since.
I'm sure she owned some real Chanel in her lifetime, but I'm fine settling for a £9- knock-off.

She had some boots very similar to these.

Simple gold hoops and a wrapped faux-pearl strand.
I opted for a low bun today- it was just easier given that I straightened my hair over the weekend.

Chanel-inspired Cardigan- Thrifted in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Black Skinny Jeans- Target in Ohio.
Grey T-shirt: Forever 21 in Pentagon Mall, D.C.
Jessica Simpson Boots- Marshall's in Ohio.
Faux-Pearl Necklace- Purchased online as part of a roaring 20s costume!
Gold Hoops- Bead store in NYC.
Silver Spoon Ring- Family heirloom (mom's side, originally purchased by Gram!).
